Lab News
The following changes and events are taking place in the Language Lab over summer 2008.
1. The Lab staff members have installed a new electronic login system to replace the old hand written system! All students will need to use their student ID number to use the computers or work with a tutor in the Lab. We are in the process of designing Podcast directions for students to learn how to use the system. To view the podcasts, go to our "Podcasts" page. If you do not know your student ID number, please ask one of the Lab staff members and they will assist you in getting it!
2. In the near future, all BHCC students will be able to schedule an appointment with a tutor via a website. Students will be able to log into the site using the same BHCC login and password they use to gain access to see their grades and schedules in Web Advisor. We will develop a podcast tutorial for students so they can easily learn how to use this feature. All Podcasts can be viewed on our Podcast page.
3. The Lab purchased and installed a new program called Focus on Grammar. There are 4 levels and they will benefit BSL, ESL, and English 090 and 095 students. If you would like to learn more about the programs, please see a Lab staff member.
4. This summer the Lab is open from 9:00am - 9:00pm, Monday - Thursday. Sorry, we are NOT open on Friday, Saturday, or Sunday.
5. Faculty members will also soon be able to schedule an appointment the "Language Lab Classroom" via the web beginning in September. The Lab staff members are designing a Podcast so faculty will easily be able to login and schedule an appointment electronically.
6. This summer we are providing many great grammar workshops. The workshops begin on June 16 and run through July 9. The see a listing and register, click on our "Workshops for Students" link.
7. Are you taking ENG 095 or ENG 111 this summer? Do you know much about the Exit Exam? The Lab has created several practice exit exams for you two read and write about and we will go over them with you to help you improve your writing.
8. Jaws and Zoom were installed on two of our computers. They are software programs which assist visually impaired students.
