The Language Lab Staff

Rosangela Arrigo
Rosangela Arrigo is an international student from Italy. She has been at BHCC since last January, and her major is English concentration.
She can speak Italian, English, and basic Spanish. She looks forward to helping students with their homework.
John Avellar
John Avellar has been a tutor at the Bunker Hill Community College Language Lab from the first day it opened. He is a graduate of the University of Massachusetts at Boston, and has worked as an English teacher for many years.
Maryann Broxton
Maryann Broxton has been a student at BHCC for three years. She is double majoring in English and Sociology. She is President of the Parents' Association, VP of the African-American Cultural Society, member of the Honors program, and has mentored for the Student Success Program. She plans on attending Tufts or Simmons to continue on to a BA in English.

Fred Brown
Fred Brown first came to BHCC in the fall of 2004 as an adjunct English professor after having taught English in Boston area public middle and high schools for thirty years. He was graduated from the Boston Public Schools many years ago and received his Bachelor’s degree from Harvard University and his Master’s degree from Lesley University. In addition to his work with the English department, Fred also serves with the Allied Health Programs, Workforce Development, and the Assessment Center where he assists ESL students in course selection. When time permits, he also volunteers as an unofficial assistant advisor for the BHCC Stage and Screen Club. Fred is excited about the expansion of the circle of students, staff, and faculty with whom he works that his role in the Language Lab will provide.
Chris Carter
Christopher Carter has been working at BHCC for over two years and began teaching English and ESL courses. He is currently the BHCC language Lab coordinator and has been involved with its inception under Alessandro Massaro's leadership. As well as overseeing the lab's operations and academic support services, he also assists students and faculty in the lab. Helping students, teaching faculty, and creating a first class high-tech learning environment are his top priorities. He looks forward to meeting everyone who attends the lab.
Pamela D'Ambrosio
Pamela is a full-time BHCC student who is studying to become a Radiologist Assistant. She has been at BHCC since fall 2007 and resides from
Michael Dubson
MICHAEL DUBSON began working in the Massachusetts Community College system as soon as he received his Master’s degree. Michael attended a community college, and it was that experience that led him to want to teach in one. Michael has been at Bunker Hill since 1991¸working for many years as a part time faculty member, and is now happy and proud to be part of the full-time faculty in the English Department. In addition to teaching, Michael has written and published fiction, non fiction, poetry, a play and has been the editor of two literary magazines. He has also tinkered with acting and has performed in many venues and genres over the last fifteen years, including portraying Uncle Max in The Sound of Music, Crazy Teddy in Arsenic and Old Lace, Oscar Madison in The Odd Couple and Dr. Spivey in One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest. Michael’s favorite literary works are “The Lottery” by Shirley Jackson, Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf by Edward Albee¸ The Golden Girls and horribly so bad they’re good episodes of the old Charlie’s Angels. Michael loves music and believes there’s only two kinds of music in the world: ABBA and Cher.

Carmen Magaña
Carmen Magaña recently joined the Language Lab staff as the Full-Time Bilingual Tutor. She comes from a background in education and in the last 15 years has worked in area high schools and adult education programs teaching literacy, Spanish and English as a Second Language. Carmen is available to help students improve their language skills in English, Spanish and French, and to support staff and students in the use of the technology available in the Language Lab.

Alessandro Massaro
Sandro Massaro is responsible for making the Lab become reality. He is the ESL Department Chair and assists with all aspects of the Lab's future direction. The Lab staff is appreciates all of his efforts in making the Lab what it is today.
Antonietta Palazzo
Antonietta has been a part-time volunteer in the Language Lab for the last two years. Antonietta is a Bunker Hill Community College alumna and received a degree in business administration with a minor in accounting 25 years ago. As an Italian speaker and an immigrant, Antonietta appreciates the support the Language Lab provides students learning a new language and is happy to answer questions related to services and technology available in the Language Lab.

Sentiana Prendi
Sentiana Prendi is an international student from Albania and her major is Business Concentration. She has been at BHCC since spring 2008. Also, she speaks Albanian, Greek and English. Sentiana is very patient and looks forward to answering the student's questions.
Jamie Simpson
Jamie has taught ESL & citizenship classes in the Boston area. He has a B.A. in French from U. Mass Boston, and is currently studying Spanish. He has lived in France, Guatemala and Spain, and is available Saturdays to help in with English, French, Spanish and basic computer use.

Max Yelbi
Max currently a student at BHCC and will be working in the Lab this fall. His main goal is to gain tutoring experience with students. This will provide him with a great practical tutoring experience. Max's goals are to graduate from BHCC and continue on to earn a bachelor's degree, master's degree, and eventually attain a Ph.D.
