MARCH 8th, International Women’s Day Artists’ Reception: 5:30 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. Followed by a free concert performed by Boston ’s Premier women’s chorus V o I c e s R I s I n g: 7:30 p.m.– 9:00 p.m.

This exhibition and concert is in honor of International Women’s History Month and Mothers and Daughters everywhere.

A select group of international, Boston-based women artists expresses the idea of the mother in ways as concrete as our birth mother’s direct influence on creativity, or as abstract as the constancy of our mother earth, or the nurturing feminine characteristics embedded in an individual culture.

The artists from Canada, France, Mexico, the Phillipines, the United States, and Venezuela, working in a broad range of artistic media including installation, painting, collage, sculpture, mixed-media, video, and photography, illuminate the personal, cultural, and spiritual aspects of the Mother/Daughter connection through their art making.

Voices Rising, dedicated to honoring the voices of women composers and artists will perform an evening concert following the artists’ reception. To celebrate women around the world, Voices Rising sings songs of reflection, heritage, culture and community. Their repertoire will include Nne Oma, traditional Nigerian folksong, Motherless Child, tradt’l spiritual, Kaut Zinutu To Kalninu, traditional Latvian folksong and more.
