Instructions to Waive the Student Health Insurance

All students carrying nine credits or more in the Day or Evening Program are required to participate in the student health insurance program.  To ensure compliance with the QSHP law (www.state.ma.us/dhcfp)  students are automatically billed for the Student Health Insurance Plan.

International Students who are covered by insurance carriers outside the U.S. and by foreign National Health Service programs are deemed not to have  coverage comparable to coverage under a qualifying student health insurance program.  

If you currently have adequate health insurance, you can waive enrollment. First, please review what’s included in the MA Community College Student Health Insurance Plan:

•  Coverage for inpatient and outpatient medical expenses, access to mental health services, and prescription drug coverage
•  Access to Harvard Pilgrim’s comprehensive network of doctors, specialists and hospitals close to campus and home
•  Worldwide coverage while studying or traveling abroad
•  No deductibles 
•  No age restrictions
•  Access to discounts for dental ,eyewear and fitness services

Not all plans provide adequate coverage such as out-of-state Medicaid plans, Commonwealth Care, certain HMOs and managed care plans.  Be sure to check with your insurance company before waiving coverage.

Please Note: Based on the state eligibility guidelines, MassHealth/ Medicaid cannot be used to waive the Student Health Insurance Plan. 

Waiver Deadlines:

Student registered on or after November 1, 2011
Deadline: by 7:00pm day of registration for Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday
Deadline: by 4:00pm day of registration for Friday
