Community Education

Community Education non credit courses are designed for students of varying ages, professional experience and education levels to assist in learning new skills, or enhancing existing skills. Programs are targeted to community needs and interest and are available at convenient times at the Charlestown and Chelsea campuses. Customized programs are also available.

Courses/Programs
English as a Second Language/Basic Classes
To register for any of these classes, students must first take a placement test in the Assessment Center, Room B118. The spectrum includes classes from literacy to conversation to writing to computer literacy. Financial aid is not available. There is no residency requirement for taking these classes.

General Educational Development Preparation
GED, and GED en español classes are now offered. Are you ready for the GED? Do you think you are ready for the GED but want to be sure before you register and pay the state test fee? Find out by taking the College Placement Test in the Assessment Center in Room B118. There is no fee to take this Assessment Test. GED online is also available.

Want a new career? Try this certificate training option with hiring demands in a specific industry:

  • Ophthalmic Technician in the medical field includes an internship component

Motorcycle Class
Offered on the weekends from April to September 2008.

Culinary Classes
Now offered  through the Weekend College. Come join us in the professional kitchen laboratory for “hands-on” cooking. Lead by our two award winning chefs Marybeth Barton and George Kelley from BHCC Hospitality Department & Culinary Restaurant.

Gatlin Education Services:
Online Courses in healthcare, business, construction/automotive technology, networking and CompTIA™ Certification Prep, and Microsoft Certification Prep. New class offering for Casino Poker Dealer for 100 hours!  For more information, go to http://www.gatlineducation.com/bhcc/.

Academic Enrichment & Enhancement Studies (AEES)
For the third year in a row, we held this seminar for the SYNERGI-skole Commercial College staff and students from Denmark. The four week study program consisted of academic instruction, U.S. company visits, presentation of project work and cultural excursions. The goals of the students are to perfect their English Language skills and create a business plan.

Community Partnerships
Charlestown Mothers Association is a charitable organization dedicated to improving the community of Charlestown for all families. BHCC has developed customized offerings for them.
