COURSE RELATED INFORMATION:

What do I do if I forget or lose my schedule?
How do I know where my class is meeting?
The dates, times and room location of a course are located on the schedule you received when you registered. If you have lost or misplaced your schedule, you can go to your WebAdvisor account and print a new one. http://onlineservices.bhcc.mass.edu/WebAdvisor/WebAdvisor

How do I know what book to buy for my class?
When you turn in your completed registration form to Admissions and Registration, you will receive your course schedule. If you register online through your WebAdvisor account, print out a copy of your course schedule. You can either take your schedule to the BHCC Bookstore located on the 4th floor of the E Building or you can buy your books online through the bookstore - http://bunkerhillonline.com/inside/567. The Student Activities Office also coordinates a textbook assistance program.  The Textbook Assistance Program (TAP) is designed to help students meet the rising costs of paying for textbooks for classes they take at BHCC. All BHCC students with a valid student I.D. qualify to participate in this program. Student may borrow new and/or used textbooks free of charge for an entire semester.  Students must be registered for the semester in which they are borrowing textbooks, and must submit proof of their registration at the time of application.  Students may only put in one application per semester, and can only apply for books needed for their coursework at BHCC.  Textbooks are lent out on a first-come, first-served basis. The program starts 2 weeks before the start of classes each semester.  Textbooks must be returned to Student Activities, D106H, by the last day of final exams.  Contact the Student Activites Office D106 H for dates.

Do I need to attend my first class?
Yes, every class is important. In the first class you will meet your instructor, receive a syllabus, and review important information that will help you be successful in the course. Most instructors begin teaching academic content during the first class meeting.

What happens if I missed my first class?
Make sure to attend the next scheduled meeting period. Introduce yourself to the instructor and discuss whether it is appropriate for you to stay enrolled in the class, if not, you must see an Advisor immediately to see if you can drop or whether you will need to withdraw from the class. If you are staying, make sure to get a copy of the syllabus and make up any assignments that you missed.

What do I do, my teacher says I’m not on the roster?
You must speak with Admissions and Registration immediately to clear up the situation. Students not on the roster may not remain in class. Students attending class who are not on the roster will not earn a grade for the course.

What happens if I need to miss a class?
Try to let your instructor know in advance. It is your responsibility to make up any work and to find out about any new assignments. It helps to exchange phone numbers or emails with fellow students so you have someone to call if you miss a class. Instructors hate to hear, “did I miss anything important?” Every class is important, make an effort to attend every class, but if you have to miss a class, be responsible.

What if I didn’t attend the first 4 weeks of class?
What’s an NA grade?
If you do not attend the first 4 weeks of a class you will be assigned an NA grade on your transcript. You will not be refunded any money. If you did attend the course and received an NA grade speak with the Instructor immediately. NA grades do not affect your GPA, but they will affect your completion rate. There may be financial aid implications.

What if I need to get in touch with my instructor?
Your syllabus should include your instructor’s name and at least one way to contact the instructor; in most cases they will include a phone number, office location and an email address. The Advising Center, Admissions & Registration or the Deans’ Offices may be able to help you connect with your instructor.

What if I I’m unhappy with my instructor?
Who can I talk to about my instructor?
You can speak with your Advisor, the Department Chair of the program or one of the Academic Deans.

Who can I talk to if I’m having problems with another student?
You can speak to your Advisor or the Dean of Students.

What’s a prerequisite?
A prerequisite is a successfully completed course(s) or placement that a student is required to have completed prior to registering for or attending another course. Please refer to the course description in the BHCC Catalog - http://bunkerhillonline.com/inside/435 or Master Schedule of Courses - http://www.bhcc.mass.edu/inside/1012 for required prerequisites.

I want to take a class that has prerequisites.
I am a student at another college and I want to take a class at BHCC that has prerequisites. (I don’t want to get a degree at BHCC.)
All students, even those just visiting to take one course or just visiting for a semester or the summer must meet the prerequisites listed for the course that they would like to register for.
Prerequisites can be fulfilled by:

  • completing the prerequisite course(s) at BHCC; or
  • having official or unofficial transcripts from another accredited college or university evaluated. Final grades of a C or better must be posted in order to use the course for prerequisite purposes; or
  • in some cases by testing out of the prerequisite course on the CPT (College Placement Test) http://www.bhcc.mass.edu/inside/103 .
  • BHCC students who register for the following semester or session are registering for courses based on placement test results or passing currently enrolled courses. If one or more of the courses you are registering for has a prerequisite that you are taking this semester, check the course description to see if the prerequisite(s) requires a grade of  “C” or better. If you do not pass a prerequisite course(s) with the required grade, you will need to adjust your schedule.

What is the Waiting list?
When a class is filled, a waiting list of up to 5 individuals will be maintained by Admissions & Registration. If a seat opens up (there are no guarantees that a seat will ever open up), BHCC will contact you by phone. You must either answer the call or have voice mail. If you are not home, BHCC will leave a message for you on your voicemail. You will need to respond to the message Services within 24 hours or the seat will be offered to the next person on the waiting list. The Advising Center does not have access to your status on the waiting list.

Can I be in one section of a course and waitlist another section of the same course?
Can I put my name on the waitlist for 2 different sections of the same course?

You may be registered in one section, and be on a waitlist for one additional section of the course. You may not be on more than one waitlist for the same course.

If a class is full can I contact the instructor to get in?
If a class is full, can I sit in on the first class in case it opens up?
No. Instructors cannot sign you into a class that is filled. If you would like the opportunity to get a seat, should one open up in a closed class, add yourself to the waiting list through your online services/Web Adviser account or speak with an Advisor or Admissions and Registration.

Are there internships available at BHCC?
Many programs of study at BHCC offer internships or clinical experiences as part of their required curriculum. Internship courses and clinical experiences listed in the Course Schedule Booklet are only open to students who have completed the appropriate prerequisite coursework and are matriculated/accepted into the program of study offering the internship. Currently enrolled students interested in pursuing an internship other than those listed in the Course Schedule Booklet should meet with the Internship Coordinator, click here for more information http://www.bhcc.mass.edu/inside/993.
